
INTERNATIONAL MUSIC DOCUMENTARY COMPETITION DocFilmMusic The International Short Film Competition films. A dozen or so minutes may contain the deepest reflections, characteristic of literature, painting, theatre and music. Short forms pose a significant challenge for filmmakers. There is also the bright side of life – growing up in love, fulfilment in art and a happy old age. Their topics include violence at home and at school, the right to self-determination, one’s struggle with one’s own limitations and peer pressure as well as loneliness in the face of death. In this oldest competition of the Krakow Film Festival, there are 13 documentaries, 13 feature films and 13 animations representing a wide range of styles and themes that will be contenders for the Golden Dragon and three Silver Dragons, which opens the way to the European Film Awards and Oscars. The selection boasts the diversity of the genre revealing some experimental slant and remarkable sensitivity to the rejected and wronged people who need support. Unique protagonists expose their rare expectations both in the bloom of life and at its end. Among them, there are attempts to portray the life of the streets and communities closed behind walls, and to render the unrest among young people. Made by both award-winning and debuting filmmakers, they present insightful perspectives on our reality – divisions in families and among neighbours. Polish productions of the last year include 39 film competitors for the Golden Hobby Horse and four Silver Hobby Horses with 19 documentaries, 10 animations and 10 feature films. International documentary competition films. The selection features comics and crime fiction, family drama, social cinema and the terrifying shadow of the war in Ukraine. Using archival photographs and material, the filmmakers turned fascinating fiction into a documentary form.

They show people without prospects and heroes of our times, inhabitants of metropolises and remote villages, little joys and the toil of creation, a life to be lived and a life as a monument. They focus on anxieties of the contemporary world and revisit landmark historical events, family secrets and deeply hidden, systemic omissions.
